Shillong (Meghalaya): A Brigadier in the Indian Army was accused of sexual harassment by the wife of a junior officer in Meghalaya’s Shillong. The Meghalaya Police have registered a case against the senior officer, but no arrest has been made so far. An official response from the Indian Army is awaited.

The woman, whose husband is a Colonel posted in Shillong, lodged a formal complaint last Monday, detailing multiple instances of alleged misconduct. She accused the Brigadier of inappropriate remarks, physical intimidation and threats.

Details On The Alleged Harassment

The most recent incident took place on March 8 at a function in the Officers’ Mess, where the Brigadier allegedly made inappropriate comments about her. According to her complaint, he continued his advances despite her clear disinterest and even used abusive language against her. The situation escalated when he allegedly physically charged at her, forcing her husband to intervene.

The woman also cited a threat to her life, stating that the accused is her neighbor. She further recalled an earlier incident from April 13, 2024, when the Brigadier had allegedly commented on her dress at a housewarming event hosted by a fellow officer.

Two months later, she alleged that he forcefully held her hand in front of her husband during a dinner gathering at her residence. She stated that the repeated incidents had left her deeply traumatised, which prevented her from approaching the police earlier.

Police Case Filed

Based on her allegations, the police have registered a case under sections related to sexual harassment, outraging a woman’s modesty, and criminal intimidation. The investigation is ongoing and authorities are expected to take further action based on their findings.
