The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to begin on March 22, with excitement building up among fans. Nine out of ten franchises have already announced their captains, while Delhi Capitals remains the only team yet to confirm their leader.

Speculation about DC’s captaincy has been high, and to add to the suspense, the franchise recently released a teaser featuring actor Aditya Srivastava, known for his role as Abhijeet in CID, along with social media cricket analysts Mufaddal Vohra and Johns Benny (CricCrazyJohns).

In the teaser, CID’s Abhijeet is seen humorously “arresting” Vohra and Johns for allegedly leaking information about DC’s captaincy. The video ends with an announcement that the new captain will be officially revealed on March 14 at 9:30 AM.

Axar Patel favourite for DC Captaincy

Initially, KL Rahul was considered a top contender to lead Delhi Capitals. However, he has reportedly declined the offer, choosing to focus solely on his batting in the upcoming IPL season. This decision was influenced by the pressure of captaincy, which some believe has affected his strike rate in recent years.

With Rahul out of the race, Axar Patel has emerged as the leading candidate. A key player for DC over the years, Axar has consistently contributed with both bat and ball, making him a strong choice to lead the team.

However, veteran South African cricketer Faf du Plessis is also in line to become the DC captaincy. Having led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) from 2022 to 2024, where he guided them to two IPL finals, Faf brings valuable leadership experience to the table.
