A debate on the Governor’s address in the Haryana Assembly took an unusual turn when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ministers and MLAs clashed over the famed Jalebis of Gohana.

Tourism Minister and Gohana MLA Arvind Sharma repeatedly praised the Jalebis while celebrating BJP’s electoral victories. However, BJP MLA from Safido, Ramkumar Gautam, interrupted, claiming that Gohana’s Jalebis have lost their charm, with 99% now being made with fake ghee instead of desi ghee.

Ministers Levelled Personal Allegations Against Each Other

Sharma reacted sharply to Gautam’s remarks about Gohana’s Jalebis, questioning how many shops Gautam has visited. He defended the sweets, stating they were even brought by the Chief Minister.

In a pointed remark, Sharma hinted at controversies surrounding Gautam, recalling how he once drank 10 kg of cow dung on a bet.

Gautam, unable to hold back, fired back in the assembly, accusing Sharma of taking money from multiple people and failing to repay his relative’s dues.

Speaker Intervenes in Heated Debate

Speaker Harvinder Kalyan quickly intervened in the heated exchange between Sharma and Gautam, stating that their remarks would not be recorded.

Earlier, while discussing the Governor’s address, Sharma praised Gohana’s Jalebis, humorously comparing their popularity to elections, saying they had reached Delhi and Uttar Pradesh and would soon be in Bihar.

In response to Gautam’s financial allegations, Sharma dismissed them, declaring he would quit politics if any were proven true.

Congress MLA Objects, Alleges Threats

Congress MLA Ashok Arora alleged in the assembly that a former Kurukshetra MLA had threatened to jail him for opposing the government. He claimed people were intimidated before elections, even with job loss threats.

His remarks triggered a ruckus from the ruling party, prompting Speaker Harvinder Kalyan to intervene. Arora clarified that he did not name anyone but stood by his statement.

Meanwhile, the Speaker reprimanded Congress MLA BB Batra for using his mobile during another member’s address, reminding him of decorum in the House.
