Sheikh Hasina’s assets will be confiscated

A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of other properties including ‘Sudhasadan’, a residence in Dhanmandi, Sheikh Hasina. According to news agency ANI, the court has also issued instructions to seal 124 bank accounts associated with Hasina and her family.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hussain Ghalib gave the order on Tuesday. This action was taken after an application filed by the Anti -Corruption Commission of Bangladesh (ACC).

According to the court order, the properties of Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajib Vajed Joy, daughter Syima Vajd Putul, sister Sheikh Rehana and her daughters Tulip Siddiqui and Radwan Mujib Siddiqui will also be seized.

Violence in Bangladesh and Hasina’s disproportionate government

The Sheikh Hasina government was overthrown on 5 August 2024 due to widespread protests by students in Bangladesh. Demonstrations were going on since last year, and due to increasing pressure from the public, the government had to give up power.

Three days after the collapse of the government, Muhammad Yunus took over as the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government. Since then, political turmoil has continued in Bangladesh, and now action against Sheikh Hasina and her family has intensified.

United Nations warned Bangladesh’s army

United Nations Human Rights Head Volcar Turk revealed that the United Nations had warned the Bangladesh army that if it was involved in violence during the protests of students in July-August 2024, it would be banned from United Nations peace expeditions (UN Peacekeeping).

“We saw that there was a massive repression in Bangladesh. Our voice was the biggest hope for the people there. We had clearly warned the army that if they join violence, their contribution to international peace campaigns would end. After this we saw some changes. “
