Mumbai University clinches top honours at AIU’s International Research Festival | X – @Uni_Mumbai

Mumbai: Mumbai University has secured two gold medals in the recently concluded International Research Festival organised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) at Chitkara University, Punjab, on Monday and Tuesday. The university’s research projects were awarded first place in the Basic Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies categories.

The two-day event featured participation from 82 universities across India and 12 international universities, with selected research projects competing across various disciplines.

In the Basic Sciences category, Akshay Parab and Vaibhav Kadam from Mumbai University presented their project titled ‘Plasma Enhanced Laser Ablation System for Third-Nitride Growth at Low Temperature,’ which earned them a gold medal.

Meanwhile, the Interdisciplinary Studies category saw another gold medal win for the university, with a team comprising Tanisha Gaur, Yatharth Wazir, Akshit Savaliya, and Yashkumar Dubey for their project ‘Ishara – A Gesture of Communication.’

The International Research Festival is structured in two phases. The preliminary phase is conducted at five zonal levels, from which the top three projects from six categories are shortlisted for the final round. Mumbai University had four projects qualify from the western zone, two of which ultimately won gold in their respective categories.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ravindra Kulkarni, congratulated the winning teams, saying, “The remarkable performance of our students on such a prominent platform is a testament to their dedication and the university’s emphasis on nurturing research culture. We are committed to supporting promising ideas and turning them into tangible solutions through our incubation centre.”

The festival also received support from Mumbai University’s Student Development Department, with a dedicated team of faculty members facilitating the university’s participation.

“Subject experts, including Dr. Shashikumar Menon, Professor Sunita Shailejan, and Dr. Meenakshi Gurav, were instrumental in mentoring the students. Additionally, coordination for the event was handled by Dr. Bhushan Langi and Dr. Manish Deshmukh, ensuring seamless participation and presentation of the research work,” the University said in a statement.
