MMRDA To Run Extra Service On Mumbai Metro Line 1 From Ghatkopar To Versova | Pinterest

Mumbai: Mumbai Metro Line 1 will run additional services from Ghatkopar to Versova during peak hours. These shorter trips aim to reduce congestion during rush hour on Metro Line 1. Currently, the metro service operates from Ghatkopar to Versova, but the MMRDA has decided to add more service on this route from Ghatkopar to Andheri.

The shorter trips on Metro Line 1 will operate from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This initiative aims to provide a hassle-free commuting experience during peak hours.

According to reports from senior metro officials, “the trial run was conducted on March 6. More trials are planned to gather feedback from commuters.” as per a report by The Indian Express. This decision was made considering that most of the crowd travels from Ghatkopar to Andheri.

Commuters Call For More Coaches on X

Due to the high demand on Metro Line 1, commuters are calling for action to add more coaches. An X user, Zoru Bhathena, shared his difficulties while travelling on Metro Line 1, which currently has only four coaches.

He compared this with other metro lines, stating, “Mumbai Metro Line 1 is packed, with only 4 coaches. Mumbai Metro Line 2 is not packed, with 6 coaches. Mumbai Metro Line 3 is empty, with 8 coaches. My Mumbai Metro Putting money on the wrong coaches.” Many commuters have expressed their concerns about the insufficient number of coaches.

To improve the commuter experience, the MMRDA now intends to add more services between Ghatkopar and Andheri. About 10 years ago, Metro Line 1 was popularly referred to as the Blue Line. The project, which runs from Versova to Ghatkopar, started in 2007 and went into operation on June 8, 2014.
