If any seat is being discussed the most in Bihar assembly elections 2025, then it is Raghopur assembly seat. This seat is considered to be the stronghold of the Lalu family and currently former Deputy CM and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav are MLA from here.
But this time the match may be interesting, as Prashant Kishore (PK) has indicated to contest from this seat. If he lands in the field, this match can become one of the most high-profile battles in Bihar.
Political history of Raghopur seat: Yadav voters dominate
Raghopur assembly seat comes in Vaishali district and there are about 3.5 lakh voters.
The voting percentage is usually between 50–55%.
The Yadav community lives in a decisive role in this seat, as their number is more than 30% (about 1.25 million voters).
Both NDA and Grand Alliance usually give tickets to Yadav candidates here.
Lalu Yadav has been an MLA from here twice.
Rabri Devi won this seat thrice.
Tejashwi Yadav has been winning this seat since the last two (2015, 2020).
In 2010, NDA’s Satish Yadav defeated Rabri Devi and broke into the RJD fort.
Will Prashant Kishore give a tough competition to Tejashwi?
Prashant Kishore (PK) made a statement in Bettiah that activists have suggested him to contest from Raghopur.
Jan Suraj Party will contest 243 seats alone, which was formed by PK on 2 October 2023.
His party has no traditional vote bank, but he claims to do politics on issues other than casteism.
What will be challenges for PK in Raghopur?
It is a stronghold of Yadavs, where victory is very difficult for a non-Yadav candidate.
Since 1967, no non-Yadav candidate won here.
Fighting elections from here can prove to be a “crooked kheer” for PK.
The My (Muslim-Yadav) equation of RJD is very strong here.
However, Prashant Kishore’s party claims that he will fight on issues different from racist politics. But the question is, will it be possible to break caste equations in Yadav-Bahul region like Raghopur?
Is there a big upset in Raghopur?
If Prashant Kishore enters the field, this election will not be easy for Tejashwi Yadav. But will PK Yadav be able to make a dent in the vote bank? Or will this match be limited to only discussion?
Before the Bihar elections, this seat is going to be the center of political fierce battle. Now it will be seen whether PK will really enter the field or is it just part of the electoral strategy?
