Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar couldn’t hold back his emotions as India clinched the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 title in Dubai. The legendary cricketer, known for his composed demeanour, broke into an impromptu dance as the Indian team celebrated their hard-fought victory over New Zealand. His jubilant moves quickly went viral, capturing the hearts of fans worldwide.
During the post-match presentation, Gavaskar’s enthusiasm took center stage as he swayed with child-like excitement when India received the prestigious trophy along with the iconic white blazer. Presenter Mayanti Langer, caught off guard by the unexpected dance, stepped aside, allowing cameras to fully capture the heartwarming moment.
Fellow panellist Robin Uthappa was all smiles, taking out his phone to record the legendary cricketer’s celebration. Commentator Jatin Sapru humorously remarked, “Who is going to stop Sunny Ji today?” to which Harbhajan Singh replied, “No one should! He’s a legend, and this is a moment to cherish.”
India cement dominance in white ball cricket
The champions trophy victory in Dubai cemented Team India’s dominance in white-ball cricket. Under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, the team remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, securing their third Champions Trophy title and their second consecutive ICC trophy in less than a year.
The thrilling final saw India chase down a competitive target of 252 with an over to spare. Rohit led from the front with a quickfire 76, while KL Rahul’s composed unbeaten 34 ensured India crossed the finish line despite a determined fight from New Zealand.
With this win, India has now triumphed in 22 of their last 23 completed ICC tournament matches, their only loss coming in the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia. India is also the most successful nation in the history of the tournament with three trophies to their name.
