Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Koh-e-Fiza police registered an FIR against unidentified junior doctors and medical staff for allegedly assaulting and injuring four relatives of a woman patient who died while undergoing treatment in ICU at Hamidia Hospital late Saturday night. The junior doctors claimed that 30 to 40 people barged in the ICU and assaulted them.

Three junior doctors have received injuries in the incident, they told police. Videos of the clash also went viral on social media in which some persons are seen assaulting each other at the ICU.

According to reports, woman patient Bhuri Bai aka Dolly suffering from multiple ailments died while undergoing treatment late on Saturday night. Police officials said that the doctors were sending the body for autopsy when her kin objected.

Following an altercation, there was a clash between the relatives of Bhuri Bai and the junior doctors and medical staff at the ICU. Police intervened and took the injured persons for treatment. Four relatives of the deceased patient received injuries and one of them was injured in the head.

TI at Koh-e-Fiza police station Brajendra Marskole said on complaint of Bhuri Bai’s kin Suraj Banjara, an FIR has been registered against unidentified doctors and medical staff in this connection. Doctors have also submitted a complaint and further investigations were underway.

Footages of CCTV cameras will be scanned to identify the persons involved in the clash, he added. Acting dean at Gandhi Medical College Dr RP Kaushal said that some persons assaulted the doctors after the death of a patient.

Some doctors have received minor injuries in the assault. A complaint has been given to police in this connection, he added. The doctors wrote a letter to CMO while informing about the incident.

“A group of 30 to 40 people barged inside the ICU (H3D) after death of a patient on Saturday night and assaulted the doctors. Panic gripped the hospital as the assailants were carrying weapons” the letter said.

JUDA president Dr Kuldeep Gupta said the incident has raised safety concerns for the doctors at Hamidia Hospital. Letters have been forwarded earlier to chief minister and concerned officials demanding adequate security to the doctors.

Suspicious persons roam around at the hospital late in the night. Earlier, some miscreants damaged the car of a woman doctor, he added. JUDA demanded ban on entry of unidentified persons, illegal ambulances at the hospital, increase in number of security guards, high mast lights and boundary wall with wire mesh.
