Indian cricket great batsman Sunil Gavaskar believes that Rohit Sharma should not be satisfied by just 25-30 runs, but should focus on playing long innings. According to him, if Rohit stays at the crease, he can change the attitude of the match for India.
Rohit Sharma’s recent performance:
Against Pakistan – 20 runs
Against New Zealand – 15 runs
Against Australia – 28 runs
Why did Gavaskar advise Rohit to play with restraint?
Gavaskar said in a conversation with India Today:
“If Rohit bats for 25 overs, India can reach close to 180-200 runs.”
“If India has lost only two wickets by then, they can go up to 350 or more runs.”
he adds:
“It is a good thing to play aggressive, but restraint is also necessary to stay up for 25-30 overs.
“If Rohit does this, he can take away the match from the opposition team and it can become a big reason for victory.”
Gavaskar also questioned whether a batsman can be happy after scoring just 25-30 runs?
“I would like to say to Rohit that if you bat for 25 overs instead of 7-9 overs, then the team will benefit greatly.”
