Cop identified; action taken

The cop was identified as PSI B.A. Gadhvi. The incident was reported by local news media outlet Samna Digital, followed by an update stating action was taken against Gadhvi.

It was learned the cop was on his duty in Surat for PM Modi’s event and police protocol, posted in the Morbi district otherwise.

Netizens spark outrage as video goes viral

The shocking video initially showed the unidentified boy riding his cycle on the road. Dressed in orange t-shirt and black pant, the child took his cycle on the route unaware of the ongoing drill. It was unclear whether there were any signboards restricting regular vehicular movement during the police rehearsal, which asked the cyclist to avoid the route.

When a police officer spotted the boy cycling there, he approached him furiously. The video caught the cop assaulting the young cyclist by grabbing his t-shirt, pulling his hair, and punching on his back.

The exact route where in Surat the incident took place is unreported. The incident occurred ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city, as police conducted security drills to ensure smooth arrangements.

As the clip surfaced online, the harsh treatment of the cop was condemned. Netizens demanded action against the cop condemning the excessive use of force on the boy who seemingly was unaware of the VVIP rehearsal on the roadway.

“Look at how he makes a fist and punches the kid. NAME AND SHAME THIS COP UNITL HE IS SUSPENDED”, one wrote. “This cop must be suspended with immediate effect.Roads are not properties of VVIP’s.This VIP culture is spoiling India beyond repair” , another added.
