The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) -backed candidates won two of the three seats in the Legislative Council (MLC) elections held on February 27 in Telangana. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on this victory in this state. This is the first time the BJP has such a large number of elected representatives after the formation of Telangana in 2014. The party now has eight MLAs (out of 119), three MLCs (out of 40) and eight MPs (out of 17) in the state. This victory shows the growing influence of the party in the state.

Election Results: Who won?
Madak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar graduate constituency defeated BJP-backed Chaudhary Anji Reddy by more than 5,000 votes by V. Narendra Reddy of Congress. In the first phase, Anji Reddy did not get enough first preference votes, but after Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) -backed P. Harikrishna was out, the contest remained only between Anji Reddy and Narendra Reddy, in which the BJP candidate won.
Malka Komaraiya, a BJP-backed Malka Komaraiya from Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Teacher Constituency, was victorious, while Independent candidate Shripal Reddy Pingili (PRTU-supported) won in Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teacher Constituency. Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) did not field candidates on this seat.
Counting process and election campaign
The counting process was long and complex, as this included separating legitimate and illegal votes and calculating it on the basis of preference. BJP’s victory over two of the three MLC seats is seen as a moral lead for him in the state.
The BJP fielded candidates for all three seats, while the ruling Congress contested only in graduate constituency. BRS kept distance from the election. Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, captive Sanjay Kumar and other BJP leaders campaigned extensively, while Chief Minister A.K. Revanth Reddy and other senior Congress leaders also gave full strength in the election campaign.
BJP’s increasing influence in Telangana
These election results make it clear that the BJP’s influence is continuously increasing in Telangana, especially in Medak, Nizamabad, Adilabad and Karimnagar parliamentary areas, where its MPs are already present. This victory has increased enthusiasm among party workers and BJP’s hold in the state is getting stronger.
BJP leadership response
Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on the social media platform X (Twitter), “Thanks to the people of Telangana, who gave a great support to the BJP in the MLC elections. Congratulations to our newly elected candidates. I am proud of our party workers, who are working with a dedication among the people. ”
Home Minister Amit Shah also reacted, saying, “Thanks to the people of Telangana, they gave the BJP a wonderful victory in the MLC elections. Your faith inspires us to serve more. “
Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Bandhi Sanjay Kumar said that teachers and graduate voters have rejected the false promises of the Congress. He said, “The victory of our candidates shows that BJP’s hold in more than 70% of the region in the state is getting stronger.”
Shock for Congress
State Chief Minister and Congress leader A.K. Revanth Reddy campaigned strongly for these elections. However, critics surrounded him to ignore Srisalum Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel accident, where eight people were trapped by falling a part of the tunnel on 22 February. The Congress will now review these results and formulate a strategy for the upcoming MLC elections.
Ever watching upcoming elections
Elections are to be held in Telangana soon for five MLC seats of MLA quota. The Congress has started discussing the list of potential candidates. At the same time, the victory of these two seats of BJP has increased the enthusiasm among party workers, due to which an interesting contest can also be seen in the upcoming elections.
