Bhopal Municipal Corporation Fines Man For Dumping Medical Waste In Open | FP Photo

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): In a move to enhance the city’s cleanliness and curb dumping of waste in the open, Bhopal Municipal Corporation is taking action against individuals violating the waste disposal norms. On Thursday, BMC staff imposed a spot fine on an individual for disposing of medical waste in the open near the Kaliyasot Dam in Kolar Zone No. 18, Ward No. 80.

During a cleanliness inspection under the supervision of Commissioner Harendra Narayan, Zone No. 18 staff found medical waste in the open area near the Kaliyasot bridge.

Documents which were a part of the garbage led the team to one Deepak Thakur, a resident of the Sarvadharma Colony nearby. Following the investigation, a spot fine of Rs. 6,000 was imposed on Thakur for improper disposal of medical waste. The corporation has issued strict directives to prevent open dumping, especially of medical or hazardous waste.

BMC To Launch 10 Cloth Bag Vending Machines On March 7

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Municipal Corporation is set to launch 10 new cloth bag vending machines in key market areas across the city, in a move to encourage eco-friendly shopping and reduce plastic use.

The vending machines will be inaugurated on Friday at 11am by Mayor Malti Rai, at New Market.

Simultaneously, other machines at 10 No Market, Bittan Market and other locations will be inaugurated by respective corporators of city wards. The vending machines, funded through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with a private bank, aim to provide a sustainable alternative to plastic bags.

Each cloth bag will be available for just Rs 10 and the machines will be operated and maintained by BMC. Mayor Malti Rai told Free Press that the initiative not only promotes environmental sustainability by reducing plastic bag consumption but also caters to those who may forget to bring their own bags to the market.
