Prior to the 2025 assembly elections in Bihar, internal tussle has started in the Grand Alliance (RJD-Congress-Vamal). The statement of senior Congress leader and MLA from Bhagalpur Ajit Sharma has raised the concern of RJD.

He said that if Tejashwi Yadav’s party (RJD) wins more seats, he can become the Chief Minister, but the final decision will be taken by the Congress leadership (Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi).

Why did Ajit Sharma’s statement increase?

Ajit Sharma said-
“If the Grand Alliance wins elections and RJD brings more seats, Tejashwi Yadav can become the Chief Minister. But it will be decided by Congress High Command i.e. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. “

After this statement, controversy in the Grand Alliance may increase, as till now RJD leader has been declaring Tejashwi Yadav as CM candidate.

Conflict over seat sharing in Grand Alliance?

Bihar is expected to hold assembly elections in October-November 2025.
Parties involved in the Grand Alliance –
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)
Congress (INC)
Left parties

RJD will try to contest more seats and Tejashwi should be declared as CM face.
Congress and left parties also want a better share of seats.

Now Ajit Sharma’s statement is indicating that the Congress also wants to ensure its role in deciding the CM candidate.

Is the Congress trying to pressurize the grand alliance?

Till now, CM Face Tejashwi Yadav has been considered in the Grand Alliance.
But the Congress is now trying to give its opinion on this.
The Congress wants to strengthen its position in seat sharing.
The Congress also wants to show that it is not just a junior partner, but will have an important role in decisions.

Can the Grand Alliance be split?

If there is a difference of seat sharing in Congress and RJD and differences over the post of CM, then there may be disagreement in the Grand Alliance.
RJD wants Tejashwi to be unanimously declared the Chief Minister’s candidate, while the new stand of the Congress can challenge it.
