There was a 5.6 magnitude earthquake in Imphal, Manipur on March 5, Wednesday, causing a stir in the entire state. Earthquake tremors were also felt in Assam and many other states of Northeast India. Due to severe tremors, people came out of their homes due to fear. However, no casualties or any major damage are reported yet.

Earthquake center and depth in Manipur

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at a 10 km depth near Imphal. It was located about 29 km from Chongdan in Manipur. Geological experts say the tremors feel faster and dangerous due to less depth earthquakes.

Shocks felt in India and Myanmar

Earthquake tremors were felt in both India and Myanmar. According to Indian officials, the earthquake created panic in the area for some time. However, no loss of life and property has been reported.

5.8 magnitude earthquake on Myanmar-India border

According to a report by the German Research Center for Geochens (GFZ), a 5.8 magnitude earthquake was also recorded in the Myanmar-India border region. GFZ reported that its center was at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.21 mi). Earthquake experts believe that this earthquake may be a sign of increasing danger of seismic activity in the border areas of India and Myanmar.

Earthquake of 6.1 magnitude had also occurred in Nepal

Earlier on February 28, an earthquake of 6.1 magnitude was recorded in Nepal. These shocks were also felt in Bihar, Siliguri and other neighboring areas of India. During this time, the nervous people came out of their homes.
