Mumbai: Temperatures are rising daily in the city, and it putting pressure on the power demand. Mumbai’s electricity demand is set to reach new heights. Power companies are forecasting a peak demand of over 4,500 megawatts (MW) this summer, 900 MW higher than the usual summer demand.

These predictions are based on AI tools and consumption trends, which suggest that this summer’s peak power demand will exceed 4,500 MW. A spokesperson from Tata Power stated, “In our distribution network, we expect the peak demand to reach 1,100 MW, compared to 1,063 MW last year. To ensure an adequate power supply for consumers, we are securing 1,630 MW through thermal, hydro, gas, solar, and wind energy sources. We are also in the process of securing an additional 200 MW,” according to a report by Hindustan Times.

At the beginning of March, temperatures have been rising, leading to an increase in power demand. The current demand has been in place around 3,500–3,600 MW, with power companies anticipating further growth in the coming days, particularly during the peak summer months of April and May. According to reports, Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited (AEML) is securing 50 MW from renewable energy sources, while Tata Power is working to secure an additional 200 MW of power.
