SP MLA Abu Azmi is under criticism these days for praising Aurangzeb. The issue has been hot in the ongoing assembly session in Maharashtra. Eknath Shinde and BJP also strongly criticized Abu Azmi for praising Aurangzeb. After which Abu Azmi withdrew his statement. However, the controversy is not taking the name of ending. The MLA has been suspended from the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for the current session.
Those who insult Chhatrapati Shivaji should not be spared – Chandrakant Patil
Maharashtra government minister Chandrakant Patil proposed to suspend Abu Azmi in the assembly session. BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar said that Azmi should be removed from the assembly and not suspended for only one session. Chhatrapati Shivaji is revered and we should not leave those who insult him easily. However, Chandrakant Patil clarified that according to the Supreme Court’s decision, MLAs cannot be suspended for more than a session. We will set up a committee that will assess whether Azmi can be suspended from his membership as an MLA or not?
Abu Azmi apologizes as the controversy escalated
After his statement on Aurangzeb, when politics was heating up, Abu Azmi clarified that he could not even think of speaking against Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj.
Abu Azmi said that my words have been distracted. I have said what historians and writers have said about Aurangzeb. I have not made any derogatory remarks about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Sambhaji Maharaj or any other great person. He further said that my age is not so much that I can make such a statement. The statement of historians was,
If someone is hurt by my statement, I apologize unconditionally and withdraw my statement.
Eknath Shinde demanded apology
So at the same time, Shinde also said that Abu Azmi should apologize. He also demanded that he be prosecuted for treason. He said that Abu Azmi’s statement is unacceptable and condemnable. It is a sin to call Aurangzeb a good administrator. This is the same Aurangzeb who harassed Sambhaji Maharaj for 40 days. Abu Azmi apologized. Our Chief Minister has also taken it very seriously. I believe that Azmi should be accused of treason to insult national heroes. Those who speak against national heroes should be called anti -national.
BJP also attacked
BJP national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said that it is a great insult to Indian society that Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi and Congress party leader Rashid Alvi are praising Aurangzeb, one of the most cruel and tyrannical rulers. This proves that these people are ready to go to any extent to completely destroy Hinduism. This shows how much these people hate Indian culture and Indian tradition.
