Efforts are on to weaken the legacy of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with decisions one after the other in Bangladesh. Now the Mohammed Yunus government has canceled ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman International Peace Award’. This is the same award which was approved by the government of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina just 10 months ago. The award was started to honor Bangabandhu’s peace and the ideology of humanity, but now the Yunus government suddenly abolished it.
The award can be canceled without honoring anyone
The Awami League government approved the policy on 20 May 2023.
- This award was to be given to an individual or institution every two years.
- It would be found to those who would have made outstanding contribution in the field of international peace, end of wars, poverty alleviation and humanity.
- The winner was to get 1 million dollars, 50 grams 18 carat gold medal and a certificate.
Income Tax New Rule: Now social media, banks and trading accounts will also be under investigation!
But before this honor was given to someone, the Yunus government abolished it.
Accused of eradicating Bangabandhu’s legacy?
This decision of the Yunus government has created a stir in the politics of Bangladesh.
- The award was associated with the legacy and ideology of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
- But the new government has canceled it and gave rise to dispute.
- After this decision, the Yunus government may be accused of trying to eradicate memories related to Bangabandhu.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s name is an important legacy in Bangladesh politics. Now it has to be seen what the public and political parties react to the decision to end this award.
