Da hike update: Will the central government announce an increase in dearness allowance on Wednesday, 5 March? If we look at the records of previous years, before Holi, the government has increased the dearness allowance (DA). If the government runs on the trend of previous years, then after the cabinet meeting tomorrow, the government can announce an increase in dearness allowance. Employees and pensioners are waiting for the increase in their DA before Holi (Holi 2025). DA is increased twice a year under the 7th Pay Commission. The first increase is applied from 1 January and the second 1 July.

Will dearness allowance increase by 3 percent?

The government can announce a 3 percent increase in dearness allowance. If this happens, the salary of all the big government officials from the entry level of the central government will increase. Employees whose basic salary is Rs 18,000 per month will increase by Rs 540 per month in their salary.

How is dearness allowance calculated?

If an employee’s salary is Rs 30,000 and his basic salary is Rs 18,000, then he is currently getting 50 percent i.e. Rs 9,000 as DA. If there is an increase of 3 percent, the DA will increase to Rs 9,540, which will increase the salary by Rs 540. If the salary increases by 4 per cent, the DA will be Rs 9,720 and the salary will increase by Rs 720.

How much DA increased last year?

In March 2024, the government increased the DA from 4% to 50%. This was followed by 3% increase in October 2024, causing DA to 53%. Now DA is expected to increase by 3-4% again from January 2025. The government can announce the DA hike at any time, but it is considered to be applicable since 1 January 2025.

More than one crore government employees will get benefit

This decision will benefit about one crore employees and pensioners of the central government. According to government rules, inflation relief (DR) given to DA and pensioners is revised twice a year- January and July. If this increase is applicable, then the salary of government employees will be seen once again.
