Pune: PMC To Construct 5-7 Five-Star Toilets At THESE Places In City, Each Worth ₹70 Lakh |

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Thursday presented the budget for the financial year 2025-2026. Pune Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale while presenting the budget said, that the city is experiencing a surge in the people coming to the city for work and business so the civic body will construct around 5-7 five star toilets across the city at the entrance points which will facilitate the people coming to the city to get freshen up and they will be able take bath and change clothes.

Speaking to the Free Press Journal, Sandip Kadam, head of the solid waste management department of PMC, informed, “In a view to cater the migration in the city, we have decided to constructfive start toilets across the city. These toilets will be constructed as major entry point location which includes, Baner, Balewadi, Viman nagar, Hadapsar and Ambegaon. The total estimated cost for constructing one five Star toilet is Rs70 laks. The entire project will be completed in around six months and in the coming weeks we will be flouting tenders for the same. This will help the people coming to the city to access clean toilets and washrooms.”

People raise issues

However, the construction of five-star toilets is raising a lot of concerns amongst the public, especially after the failure of the e-toilet initiative in which 11 e-toilets were built, each worth ₹2 crore. However, most of them remain non-functional and in bad condition.

Sachin Bapat, a resident said, “I was hoping that PMC would table budget which will have some new reforma but they are just focusing on constructing and not maintaining the property and if they say toilets will be constructed at entry point they should construct one near the passport office near the railway station, at Swargate bus depot and in Shivajinagar. The locations that they have mentioned doesn’t make sense to what they are saying. Those are not the entry points. Even if they are considering people coming from viallges they should consider changing the locations.”
