Fire Breaks Out Near Registrar’s Residence In Savitribai Phule Pune University Campus

A major fire broke out near the registrar’s residence on the Savitribai Phule Pune University campus on Tuesday, officials said.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Pune Fire Brigade officials quickly responded to the scene to extinguish the blaze, they added.

The fire was reported in a forested area in front of the registrar’s residence, said Rahul Sasane, President of the University Student Struggle Action Committee, adding that several incidents of tree felling have come to light in the last few days, raising suspicion.

Sasane said, “It should be investigated whether this fire was natural or intentionally lit. If it was intentional, the strictest action should be taken against the culprits. Our question is whether the university administration is deliberately causing such incidents.”

Meanwhile, university and fire brigade officials are working together to determine the exact cause of the fire.
