Assam Controversy has arisen over a question asked in the 10th class board examination. A question asked on Indian secularism in the social science paper of the State Board Examination has gone viral on social media. On this issue, the BJP -led Himanta Biswa government is facing criticism from all sides. Many NGOs in the state have claimed that the BJP government is conspiring to make a fanfast in the education system. Many student organizations have also opposed this question.
What was the question asked?
The question asked in the examination was, ‘Suppose the government opened a hospital in a village called Dambuk, where the treatment of Hindus is free and people of other religions have to pay fees. Should the government do something like this in a country like India? Give your opinion. ‘
Do not create discrimination in the minds of students.
On this issue, senior advocate of Guwahati High Court Rashid Ahmed Chaudhary said, “We know about the politics happening these days.” But it has been appealed not to include it in education. Assam is a legacy of the Board of Education. Leaders should throw them out of their politics. Do not waste it. We are already facing religious and social negativity on social media. In such a situation, do not create discrimination in the minds of students by asking such questions.
This is mental exploitation: student organization
The student organization of Halakandi Shri Krishna Sharda College had submitted a letter to the District Commissioner in protest against this question, stating, “If such questions were asked again in the examination, we will start the movement.” You should also think about children of other religions what their mental state is. And what will happen if we ask such questions? This is a type of mental exploitation. ‘
Education Minister defended
In the midst of a controversy over a question asked in the question paper, the state education minister Runoj Pegu has defended himself, saying, “There is no need to make such a small case a big issue.” The Ministry of Education only wanted to know whether the students have a complete understanding of Indian secularism. The Preamble of the Constitution states that India is a secular country. We want to give children intensive knowledge about it. This issue is already being taught. I do not understand why you are making such a small thing such a big controversy.
