President’s rule is currently in force in Manipur.

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh recently resigned, after which no party has come forward to form the government, due to which the central government has implemented President’s rule in the state since February 13. This is the first such incident after the implementation of President’s rule. Significantly, violence erupted in 2023 between the Maetai community living in Imphal in the northeastern state of Manipur and the Cookie community living in the surrounding hills. Since then 250 people have died, while thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes.
