Less than 48 hours after he broke into a shop and decamped with cash amounting Rs.7 lakh, the 27-year-old thief landed into the custody of the crime detection unit attached to the Kashigaon police station.

The accused who has been identified as-Ismail Isaak Shaikh (27) turned out to be a serial offender with around ten cases of thefts and house break-ins registered against him at various police stations. Shaikh gained access into the shop by breaking open the rear grill of the shop when the owners had gone to visit a shrine in Ankleshwar, Gujarat. Shaikh who decamped with cash amounting Rs.7 lakh could not resist going on a shopping spree with the ill-gotten money.

After being alerted by informers about Shaikh’s lavish expenditure, personnel from the crime detection unit under the supervision of senior police inspector-Mahesh Togarwad arrested him from the Janta Nagar area of Kashigaon. Apart from tools used to break open the window grill, the police recovered Rs.4.50 lakh cash, newly purchased high end mobile phones and 25 pant-shirt pairs of expensive brands from the possession of Shaikh who was booked under the relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita for theft and house trespass. 

Police sub-inspector- Abhijeet Lande is conducting further investigations.
