Afghanistan fans were seen performing bike stunts and dancing widly after the men’s team historic Champions Trophy 2025 win over England on Wednesday at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. In a video shared on social media, thousands of fans gathered on the field to celebrate Afghanistan’s victory.
The Afghans, captained by Hashmatullah Shahidi, secured their first Champions Trophy win as they sneaked home by eight runs while defending 325 in Lahore. Ibrahim Zadran’s 177 lifted them to a stiff total, while Azmatullah Omarzai’s fifer proved integral in their massive victory to keep their hopes alive in the eight-team tournament.
Meanwhile, below is the clip of Afghanistan fans celebrating the men’s team victory:
“I’m sure the whole nation will be happy with this win” – Hashmatullah Shahidi
At the post-match presentation, Afghanistan skipper Shahidi took pride at how far the team has come since their win over the same opposition in the 2023 World Cup. He stated:
“As a team we are happy and I’m sure the whole nation will be happy with this win. The first time we beat them in the 2023 World Cup. I keep saying that we are improving day by day as a team, and that’s what we’ve showed at the last couple of world cups. Today it was a tense game, but we controlled it really well. I’m happy with the result.”
Shahidi and his men will next face Australia on February 28, Friday in Lahore and it will be a virtual quarter-final between them, with England out of the race. Having beaten Australia in T20 World Cup 2024 and the Men in Yellow not in full strength, Afghanistan will take confidence from it.
