Pune rape case: An incident like Nirbhaya gangrape in Delhi has stirred up in Pune. A 26-year-old woman was raped in the Shivshahi bus in the morning at the Swargate bus stand in Pune. The accused escaped after being raped. 13 police teams have been formed to arrest 36 -year -old absconding accused Dattatreya Ramdas Gade with criminal records. In the CCTV camera, the person was imprisoned while seducing the girl. After the incident came to light, senior police officers and dog squad teams reached the spot for investigation. Sources in the Swargate police station said that cases of theft and chain snatching have been registered against suspected Dattatreya Ramdas Gade (age 36). Swargate is one of the largest bus junctions of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation.
13 police teams formed to arrest the accused
Criminal cases are already registered against accused Dattatraya Ramdas Gade in Shirur, Shikarpur and Swargate police stations. A case of Jebkatri (IPC Section 379) was registered at Swargate Police Station. Currently, 13 teams of Pune Crime Branch are looking for the accused and Dog Squad has also been sent.
A reward of one lakh rupees has been declared on the accused.
Pune Zone II DGP Smartana Patil gave a statement in the case, saying, “The accused was wearing a mask, so his face could not be recognized, but his face was later identified.” Our team will soon catch the accused. The person giving information about the accused will be given a reward of one lakh rupees. The bus has been sent for forensic examination.
NCW took cognizance
Police said, “The National Commission for Women (NCW) has automatically taken cognizance of the alleged rape of a 26 -year -old woman in a state transport bus parked in Pune and has demanded immediate action from Maharashtra officials in the case.” An official said that NCW President Vijaya Rahatkar has written a letter to the Director General of Police regarding the incident at the Swargate bus stand of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) on Tuesday morning.
Dattatreya Ramdas Gade, an accused in the case, is a history sheeter who was out on bail since 2019.
The NCW President has asked the DGP to submit the report of action with a copy of the FIR within three days to the Commission. The Commission said in a statement that we strongly condemn this heinous crime. This incident creates serious concerns about public safety and law enforcement measures.
Protests and barbarism
A group of Shiv Sena (UBT) activists vandalized a security guard cabin at the Swargate bus stand to protest against the alleged negligence. While many activists broke windows glass and furniture inside the security office, women workers raised slogans against the BJP -led Maharashtra government.
23 security guards suspended
After receiving information about the rape incident, the authorities immediately initiated action against security flaws at the Swargate bus depot. Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has ordered the immediate suspension of 23 security guards posted at the bus stand. Along with this, new security personnel have been instructed to handle duty from Thursday.
Deputy Chief Minister condemns the incident
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar condemned the incident, describing it as “extremely embarrassing, painful and anger for every member of the society”.
He said, “This incident of rape of our sister is very embarrassing, painful and anger for every member of a civilized society.” The offense committed by the accused is incompetent and there can be no punishment other than death penalty. I have personally instructed the Pune Police Commissioner to closely monitor the investigation and ensure immediate arrest of the accused. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also taken the incident seriously and has given necessary instructions to the police.
Congress demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister
Maharashtra Congress chief Harshvardhan said yesterday, ‘The incident of rape in Shivshahi bus is unfortunate. This incident raises questions on law and order and Chief Minister. If a minister’s son goes missing, the chartered aircraft is blown back into the air. There can be many such cases. The Chief Minister should resign.
