In Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, the Municipal Corporation canceled Vishwakarma Puja holiday and declared a two-day holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr. Its official notification has already been released. The state’s main opposition party, BJP, has raised strong objection to this decision. BJP leader Jagannath Chatterjee criticized this decision of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, calling it a conspiracy to make West Bengal “Western Bangladesh”.
BJP’s strong opposition
Posting on social media, BJP leader Jagannath Chatterjee said, “On the morning of Shivaratri, Bengalis should think whether West Bengal is still the same or has it become Western Bangladesh?” He alleged that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government is adopting a policy of religious appeasement.
Targeting Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim, he wrote that “Hakim calls his constituency ‘Chhota Pakistan’. He promotes the propagation of Islam and motivates people of other religions to adopt Islam. ”

Eid objection to two days holiday
Jagannath Chatterjee said that “there is only one day holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr across India, but since the administration of Kolkata Municipal Corporation is in the hands of Firhad Hakim, there is a two-day holiday here.” Describing it as a one -sided decision, he opposed the cancellation of Vishwakarma Puja’s holiday.
Appeal to public
In a video message, Jagannath Chatterjee said that “This notification of Kolkata Municipal Corporation Education Department will hurt the heart of every traditional Bengali. This will create disturbance in people’s minds. ” He urged the citizens of Bengal that “Traditional Bengalis, think in which direction we are going. If you do not remove them in 2026, then you have to say goodbye to your Bengal. “
The BJP has directly attacked the TMC government over this issue, while the municipal administration has not yet responded to the dispute.
