Why does the risk of heart attack increase on Monday?

Researchers examined the records of more than 10,000 patients between 2013 and 2018 who had to be hospitalized due to ST-segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI). The study found that the incidence of such serious heart attacks increases by 13% at the beginning of the week (especially on Monday).

What do experts say?

Dr. Jack Laughn, associated with research, told the Daily Mail that such a trend has been seen in Western countries earlier. According to scientists, heart attack is more likely in winter and in the morning. Apart from this, a similar pattern has been seen in stroke cases. Doctors believe that the main reason for this can be changes in our circadian rhythm (biological clock), which affect the level of hormones. In addition, anxiety and stress of returning to work on Monday increases the level of cortisol hormone in the body, which may increase the risk of heart attack.

How to stop a heart attack?

* Shortness of breathing, which can be accompanied by or without chest pain.

* Hand, neck, jaw, back or abdominal pain, which is often considered to be muscle stretch or indigestion.

* Cold sweating, dizziness, nausea and excessive fatigue.
