Assembly elections are to be held in Bihar till October-November this year. Earlier, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday expanded his cabinet and administered the oath of office to seven MLAs of the ally BJP. Governor Arif Mohammad Khan administered the oath to all new ministers at this ceremony held at Raj Bhavan, Patna.

New ministers involved in cabinet

The names of the seven BJP MLAs who have been made ministers in this expansion are as follows:

  1. Jibesh Kumar
  2. Sanjay Saraogi
  3. Sunil Kumar
  4. Raju Kumar Singh
  5. Moti Lal Prasad
  6. Vijay Kumar Mandal
  7. Krishna Kumar Mantu

Now how many ministers, how many seats for which party?

The total number of ministers has increased to 36 after the cabinet expansion. Earlier this number was 30. According to the new equation:

  • BJP: 21 ministers
  • JDU: 13 ministers
  • We (hum): 1 minister
  • Independents: 1 Minister

Caste equation: How many ministers from which caste?

Keeping the election in mind, an attempt has been made to maintain caste balance.

1. General Class (Savarna) – 11 Minister

  • Rajput: 5
  • Bhumihar: 3
  • Brahmin: 2
  • Kayastha: 1

2. Backward Class (OBC) – 10 ministers

  • Koiri-Kushwaha: 4
  • Kurmi: 3
  • Vaishya: 2
  • Yadav: 1

3. Backward Classes (EBC) – 7 ministers

  • Sailor: 3
  • Kahar: 1
  • Teli: 1
  • Dhanuk: 1
  • Nonia: 1

4. Scheduled Castes (SC) – 5 ministers

  • Paswan: 2
  • Ravidas: 2
  • Dasi: 1

5. Mahadalit Community – 2 Ministers

  • Mushar: 2

6. Muslim Community – 1 Minister

  • Pathan: 1

What caste balance was created?

Nitish Kumar has tried to implement the principle of ‘which is as heavy, as much as its share’, but the EBC (EBC) still did not get adequate representation in proportion to his population.

  • Backward Class (OBC) has a population of 27.12% and got 28% stake.
  • The Scheduled Caste (SC) has a population of 19.65% and received 19% representation.
  • The EBC has a population of 36%, but the stake was only 19%.
  • The upper caste has a population of 15.52%, but the stake was almost doubled.

What message before the election?

  • Indication of strengthening the alliance by including seven BJP ministers.
  • The strategy to help every community by keeping caste balance.
  • Political debate is possible with the extremely backward class (EBC) getting low stake.

Now it has to be seen whether this cabinet expansion benefits Nitish Kumar and BJP alliance in the election.
