The team has been strongly criticized after the ICC Champions Trophy was out of Pakistan since 2025. Meanwhile, former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi has indirectly blamed former Prime Minister Imran Khan for the fall of Pakistan cricket.
Sethi’s big statement: Pakistan cricket level dropped
Najam Sethi wrote on X (Twitter),
“The cricket fraternity says that Pakistan’s level has fallen very low. A team that was once number one in T20 (2018), Test (2016) and ODI (1990, 1996) and who won the 1992 World Cup and the Champions Trophy in 2017, why is it being compared to Zimbabwe today? ”
He claimed that Pakistan Cricket’s decline began in 2019, when Imran Khan became Prime Minister and appointed Ehsan Money as PCB Chairman.
ICC Champions Trophy 2025: More than 100 policemen dismissed for refusing security duty
Sethi told the reason for the fall of Pakistan cricket
According to Najam Sethi, in 2019, Imran Khan’s government made changes in the domestic cricket structure, affecting the quality of the team. He said:
Increased political intervention
Appointment and dismissal of foreign coaches was arbitrary
The selectors were arbitrary selected
Fuelism in the team and captain’s arrogance increased instability
Imran’s decision shocked domestic cricket
On the instructions of Imran Khan, PCB in 2019 abolished the domestic cricket system of 16-18 teams and implemented a new structure of 6 teams. After this, in 2021, Rameez Raja was appointed as PCB chairman. However, Najam Sethi again became the chairman of PCB after the Imran government collapsed in 2022.
Sethi clarified that Pakistan cricket collapsed due to management failures, selection policy disturbances and factionalism in the team, the results of which are now in front of everyone.
