United Nations: France has taken a completely new twist in the transatalantic relationship. The United States, led by Trump, has taken a different stand from the European countries’ stance for blaming Russia for war in Ukraine. After three amendments by France, when the proposal convicted for war in Ukraine was placed in the 193 United Nations General Assembly, the US kept itself away from voting. This makes it clear that the US does not hold Russia responsible for the war in Ukraine.
Surprisingly, French President Macron was enjoying the hospitality of US President Donald Trump at that time. Nevertheless, the two countries remained separate in the United Nations.
The US then moved a proposal in the United Nations Committee. But at that time five members of the 15-member committee were absent and the proposal was passed by a 10–0 vote, but Russia vetoed it.
It is noteworthy that the proposals passed in the Mahasamiti are binding on any side, but they often do not follow that principle. On the other hand, the United Nations has no other means to implement it.
In short, the war in Ukraine is unlikely to end soon. It has also become clear that there have been clear differences between the US and European countries over that war.
The proposal was eventually passed by the ‘Mahasabha’, but India was absent even during voting.
