Hours after a 21-year-old college student jumped from the Sant Tukaram Nagar Metro Station in Pimpri-Chinchwad in a suspected suicide attempt, he succumbed to his injuries while being treated at the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH), officials said on Wednesday.
The student has been identified as Sujal Mankar. He hailed from Khed in Pune district and was pursuing a Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) at the Dr DY Patil College in Pimpri, they added.
According to the police, Mankar attempted suicide by jumping from Sant Tukaram Nagar Metro Station at around 6pm on Monday. He was admitted to YCMH in critical condition.
Senior Police Inspector Ashok Kadlag from Pimpri Police stated, “He was rushed to a hospital and had started receiving treatment. He succumbed to multiple critical injuries in the night.”
“While no suicide note has been found, the initial probe points to this being a case of suicide. His friends informed us that he was experiencing financial problems and pressure from his family. We suspect this is the reason why he took the extreme step. Our probe is on,” he added.
