Mira-Bhayandar: A host of programmes and activities have been lined up by oil marketing companies (OMC) to create mass awareness about oil and gas conservation in Thane district including the twin-city of Mira Bhayandar as part of SAKSHAM (Sanrakshan Kshamata Mahotsav)- a national campaign launched by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas along with state level coordinators of the oil industry including the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Limited.
An interactive workshop demonstrating the proper, safe and efficient use of LPG fueled gas stoves and a drawing competition for students was organized under the SAKSHAM campaign by Ekvira Gas Service- a local Hindustan Petroleum (HP) gas dealership at the Lalit Vidya Niketan School in Bhayandar (east) on Saturday.

The fortnight long campaign with a tagline Cleaner Environment through Green and Clean Energy will continue till 28, February. Apart from activities for students in schools and colleges including- group talks, debates, article writing, wall painting and drawing competitions, the OMC’s are reaching out to various mass segments such as-liquified petroleum gas (LPG) users, drivers/fleet operators, industrial workers, housing societies, local governing bodies like gram panchayats, municipal councils and social welfare organizations with various fuel conservation activities to propagate awareness about the importance, benefits and methods of fuel conservation.

“Several more activities are in the offing across the district.” said an official attached to the Thane North Retail Sales Area of the IOCL. The campaign also aims at highlighting the adverse impacts on health and environment due to the increasing carbon footprints while convincing consumers to switch to cleaner eco-friendly fuels.
