In 2022, a woman already married tried to marry again but was caught red handed. The incident came to light when the police officer arrived at the venue to investigate the documents of the couple. He also tried to escape. This mass marriage was held at Shri Sukhdevi Inter College in Hasanpur. The ceremony was organized under the Mukhyamantri Group Marriage Scheme.
A couple was detained during verification. 190 couples were duly married here. The Chief Development Officer (CDO) has ordered an inquiry into the case and assured strict action against the people concerned.

What exactly happened?

All the couples and their families reached the venue on Sunday afternoon and waited for the arrival of the chief guest. When CDO Ashwini Kumar started confirming the identity of the couples, it was found that a couple was already married. The bride Asma of Sonhar village in Hasanpur married Noor Mohammed in 2022.
Asma’s father -in -law Shafiq reached the spot and reported the fraud. According to the police, Asma tried to remarry through a mediator named Farzan to get government benefits. According to some reports, she wanted to buy a buffalo. Father-in-law Shafiq Ahmed told the officials that she was having a quarrel with her husband and cannot get a legal divorce, as she is living at her parents’ house. It is learned that 145 such couples are also missing. The matter is also under intensive investigation.
