Mumbai – In the city of Shirdi, where thousands of devotees come daily, the local police caught a retired Mumbai police officer begging. Due to the large amount of alms received from the devotees of Saibaba coming from India and abroad, some highly educated youth were also caught begging and begging.

Last Thursday, a joint campaign was carried out by Shirdi Police, Nagar Panchayat and Saibaba Institute against beggars who have become a threat to devotees. Of these, 74 were detained by the police. Police said that among the arrested beggars, 16 are from district and five from other states. Women beggars were sent to a beggar’s house in Chembur, Mumbai, while male beggars were sent to Visapur.

During interrogation of the beggars, it was found that the elderly person, who had retired from the post of Assistant Sub -Inspector in the Mumbai Police Force, had been living for a long time by begging. The retired officer, who has been living in Shirdi for the last ten years, initially worked to sell the newspaper, but later adopted a ‘comfortable profession’ to beg. Some time ago it was found that by selling his house in Mumbai, a large amount of money has been deposited in his account. A highly educated youth was also arrested during a police raid. He started begging when he did not get a good job.
