Congress’s response to USAID dispute: There has been a political uproar in the country over the alleged role of the US agency for International Development (USAID) in influencing the Indian elections. Meanwhile, a report by the Ministry of Finance has revealed that USAID funded 750 million US dollars (about 65 billion rupees) projects in 2023-24. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has strongly attacked the central government on this issue.

Jairam Ramesh targeted BJP through report

Citing this report, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has targeted the Modi government. Sharing the post on Twitter, he wrote, ‘Seven projects which have been funded have nothing to do with increasing the voting of’ voters ‘.’ The Union Finance Ministry himself has completely exposed the lies of his false brigade, including the Prime Minister and his clever Foreign Minister. The Finance Ministry’s annual report of 2023-24 states that USAID is currently implementing seven projects in collaboration with the Government of India. The joint budget is around $ 750 million. Any of these projects has no relation with voter parts.

According to its report by the Central Government, USAID was financed for agricultural and food security, water, cleanliness, renewable energy, disaster management and health related projects. The Finance Ministry said in its report that India started getting assistance from the US in 1951. So far, India has received financial assistance of Rs 1700 crore from USAID for 555 projects.

What did the Foreign Minister say about financing?

On USAID, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said, “Some information has been kept by the people of Trump administration and it is worrying.” I think we are investigating it as a government. I am confident that the truth will be revealed. The USAID was allowed to conduct goodwill, goodwill activities. It is now being suggested by the US that such activities are malicious. This is worrying and if there is anything in it, then the country should know who is involved in this.

What is USAID?

The United States International Development Agency is a foreign aid agency of the United States Government. Through this, America provides financial assistance to various programs worldwide. USAID has offices in more than 60 countries worldwide. According to the Congressunal Research Service, about 10,000 people worked in this agency. Two-thirds of these employees are stationed abroad.
