The holy festival of Mahashivaratri is celebrated every year on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month. On this day, special worship, Rudrabhishek and fast of Lord Shiva have immense importance. This year Mahashivaratri will be celebrated on 26 February 2025, Wednesday.

Mahashivaratri 2025 fast and auspicious date

  • Trayodashi will end on February 26 at 11:08 am and the Chaturdashi date will begin.
  • Chaturdashi will be influenced by the whole day and till midnight, which is considered extremely auspicious for Shiva worship.
  • On this day, the consecration of Lord Shiva will start from the morning itself.

 

Mahashivaratri 2025 auspicious time of worship

Pooja is performed in four Praharas, which are as follows:

  1. First Prahar: February 26, 6:19 pm to 9:26 pm
  2. Second Prahar: February 26, 9:26 pm to 27 February, midnight 12:34 pm
  3. Third Prahar: February 27, midnight from 12:34 am to 3:41 am
  4. Fourth Prahar: February 27, 3:41 am to 6:48 am

Importance of Mahashivratri worship and consecration

  • Especially after 11:08 am, do Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva.
  • On this day, it is considered extremely auspicious to offer Ganga water, milk, curd, honey, belpatra, dhatura and ash on Shivling.
  • Devotees traveling to Kanwar should also anoint Lord Shiva after 11:08 am.
