Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The combination of Indo-Pak cricket match and the weekend kept the traffic police relieved from the usual pressure seen during the Prime Minister’s visit.
With people staying indoors to watch the much-awaited India-Pakistan match, traffic cops did not have to struggle much to maintain the vehicular flow as Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bhopal for the Global Investor Summit on Sunday.
However, traffic officials anticipate heavy vehicular movement on Monday, as the GIS coincides with the MP Board examinations. Police officials were on alert from Sunday morning and ensured the deployment of traffic personnel at designated duty points to regulate vehicular flow.
Traffic was restricted from the airport to VIP Road, Kamla Park to Polytechnic, and then to Raj Bhawan shortly before the Prime Minister’s plane landed at the state hangar.
Barricades were installed on streets and roads leading to the PM’s cavalcade route about half an hour before his arrival, with traffic being diverted to alternate routes.
However, with fewer vehicles on the roads than usual, police did not face significant difficulties in managing the flow. Citizens, especially those living in areas along the PM’s route, avoided venturing out unnecessarily, fearing they might get caught in traffic diversions and barricades.
Much to the relief of the cops, the India-Pakistan cricket match also played a key role in keeping residents indoors. Traffic police officials stated that diversions would be in place on Monday during the Prime Minister’s movement from Raj Bhawan to the GIS venue at Manav Sangrahalaya.
