Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh):
Power broker active
A power broker, with clout in Bhopal as well as in Delhi, seems to have taken a contract for getting a senior IAS officer appointed as the next Chief Secretary (CS). Those who are close to power say that this man has links with some top BJP leaders in Delhi. This is the reason why he has assured the IAS officer of helping him to become the next head of the state administration.
Now, he is lobbying for the officer in the national capital. Because of his clout, he has already done the work of some people, one of whom introduced the IAS officer to the wirepuller. The officer knows that the chances of the present Bade Sahib getting an extension are bright. Yet, he is in no mood to relent. This senior IAS officer is so keen to become CS, that some people close to him are making a strategy to push him ahead of the other officer who is the most-likely candidate for the top job in the bureaucracy after the present boss’s retirement.
Set to go
Two IPS officers holding important positions are set to be shifted. Whenever a transfer list is released, the names of these two officers will be included in it. One of them is caught in a wrangle. The officer is involved in a case, and his efforts to wriggle out of it have failed.
Another controversy has cropped up in this officer’s department, and because of his involvement in such disputes, the head of the department is angry with him. Ergo the government has lesser options than transferring him. But a replacement for this officer is yet to be found. There are reports that a decision on the issue can be taken after the Global Investors’ Summit. Likewise, the government is ready to shift the other IPS officer. But it is certain that after his transfer from the department, the officer may be given a suitable department.
Return of native
An IPS officer, known for drawing public attention, is set to come back to the state. The officer is willingly returning. He has been on deputation to the Centre and held responsible positions. The previous regime of the BJP sidelined him. Thus, he bade goodbye to the state opting for deputation to the Centre. On his return to the state, he may get a proper posting.
A transfer list of IPS officers, likely to be released after the GIS, may also contain his name. The officer’s social networking is so strong that wherever he is posted he easily befriends everyone. This is the reason why he has many well-wishers in the BJP as well as in the Congress. He may get a better position this time than he previously had.
Buzzword is moolah
A collector of an important district has little desire to change his nature. Because of the rip-off, the collector was once shifted from a district. All the same, for his links with the higher-ups in the government, he succeeded in becoming the collector of another district. His connections are so strong, that all attempts to prevent him from becoming the collector failed. But soon after taking over as collector, he is back to the old game.
In the district, where the collector is posted, a department receives a big budget from the government. The collector has begun to take carrots from the funds. He has a fixed percentage for each work he does. Because of his offstage deals, a politician of the ruling party is reportedly angry with him, but the Sahib’s links with the higher-ups have prevented his bosses from acting against him.
Losing sleep
A high-profile case has kept two former IPS officers and two present IPS officers under pressure. As long as a state government’s probe agency was handling the case, they were hardly worried. Nonetheless, they have begun to spend sleepless nights after the central agencies came into the picture. All these four officers are directly connected to the rip-off in the department.
They fear if the probe agencies delve deep into the scam, they will be in the soup. There are reports that these officers are trying to know through their sources what the accused may have told the probe agencies about the case during questioning. All these four officers are trying to manage the case on their own. One of those on whom the agencies are tightening their noose has some incriminating documents that may set off a political storm in the state.
Changes ahead
There are murmurs in the corridors of power that an administrative reshuffle may take place after the Global Investors’ Summit. The government is mulling over shifting some important officers from one place to another. There are reports that plans are also afoot to shift some officers who are on field posting. A senior bureaucrat wants to change field officers.
Besides, the government is chewing over making some more changes in the administration. Now, the government is ruminating over whether the changes should be made after the GIS or the proposals should be put off till the assembly session. It is certain that some departments will witness changes, and that the axe may fall on some such officers about whom people in the corridors of power could hardly think. There are low murmurs in the bureaucracy over the probable changes in the coming days.
