What is the whole matter?
On February 16, the third year student of B.Tech (Computer Science), Prakriti Lamsal (20), was found dead in her hostel room. The police described it as a case of suicide, but the students demonstrated a fair investigation and demanding action against the culprits.
After the demonstration, many students alleged that the university administration did not listen to him and the security personnel assaulted him, making them feel insecure. In this situation, 159 Nepali students returned to Nepal from the Raxaul border.
Government of Nepal and Government of Odisha
After the dispute escalated, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi discussed the phone with Nepal’s Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba.
The Foreign Minister of Nepal said that the Nepal government has solved the issue through diplomatic mediums. However, the students returned to Nepal told the media in Kathmandu that proper investigation into the death of Prakriti Lamsal and the victim students should get justice.
Kiit administration and police action
After catching the case, the KIIT administration dismissed two security personnel and suspended three officers, including the hostel warden.
Other than this,
- In the case of nature Lamsal’s death, a student has been arrested for abetment to suicide.
- Five other employees have been detained on charges of assault.
- The Bhubaneswar police has guaranteed the safety of the students.
- The KIIT administration has appealed to Nepali students to return to the campus.
Still the atmosphere of insecurity remains intact
Although the KIIT administration and the Odisha government have tried to handle the situation, the restoration of Nepali students still remains a major challenge. Many students said that they are not ready to return until they get a guarantee of complete security and justice.
