The Supreme Court has ordered the Uttar Pradesh Police to complete the ongoing investigation against MLA Abbas Ansari within 10 days under the Gangster Act.
Instructions to complete the investigation before considering bail
- Justice Suryakant and Justice N. A bench of Kotishwar Singh gave the verdict on Friday.
- The court said that Abbas Ansari’s bail plea will not be considered until the investigation is completed.
- Ansari had sought permission to appear in court on 31 January for fear of encounter, but he did not get this relief.
Allahabad High Court had already rejected bail petition
- His bail plea was rejected by the Allahabad High Court on 18 December 2023.
- Ansari and his associates have made serious allegations of financial and other benefits by forming gangs.
What are the allegations?
The case against Abbas Ansari was registered at Kotwali Karvi police station in Chitrakoot district.
- On 31 August 2023, an FIR was registered against him under sections 2 and 3 of the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti -Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986.
- The allegations include:
- Forced recovery
- Beating
- A gang involvement in criminal activities
Arrest and current status
- Abbas Ansari Suheldev is an MLA from the Bharatiya Samaj Party (Subhaspa) and won elections from Mau constituency.
- He was arrested on 6 September 2023.
- The High Court had dismissed the bail, saying that investigation in the case is still going on.
What will happen next?
- UP police will have to complete the investigation in 10 days.
- The Supreme Court will then consider his bail plea.
- If the investigation found serious evidence, Ansari’s legal difficulties may increase.
