Rekha Gupta, the first-time MLA who was chosen by the BJP to lead the Delhi government as the UT’s Chief Minister, expressed gratitude towards the party high command for placing their faith in her and trusting her with this responsibility.
Shortly after BJP announced her name as Delhi Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta in an X post said, “I wholeheartedly express my gratitude to all the top leadership for entrusting me with the responsibility of the Chief Minister’s post. Your faith and support have given me new energy and inspiration.”
Taking a vow to work for the development of Delhi, she said, “I pledge to work with complete honesty, dedication, and commitment for the welfare, empowerment, and overall development of every citizen of Delhi. I am fully committed to taking Delhi to new heights with this important opportunity.”
According to media reports, Rekha Gupta’s name was proposed by BJP leader Parvesh Verma in the party legislators’ meeting to elect the new chief minister. Parvesh Verma’s proposal was backed by Satish Upadhyay and other BJP MLAs.
Rekha Gupta, who represents the Shalimar Bagh constituency, is set to be sworn in as Delhi’s Chief Minister at a ceremony at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday. Her selection was finalised during a meeting of newly-elected MLAs, which was attended by BJP central observers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Om Prakash Dhankar.
This development marks a significant shift in Delhi’s political landscape, as the BJP returns to power after a 27-year hiatus. Gupta will make history as the capital’s fourth female Chief Minister, following the BJP’s decisive victory where they secured 48 seats, defeating the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party.
Preparations are complete for tomorrow’s swearing-in ceremony, which will officially mark the beginning of the new administration under Gupta’s leadership. This transition represents a major political change in the national capital after the BJP’s commanding electoral performance earlier this month.
