The central government has implemented President’s rule in Manipur on Thursday, which is being considered an important step in the recent state affected by violence. This decision was made by Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh was taken a few days after his resignation from his post on Sunday. Singh’s resignation has come in the northeast state after about 21 months of ethnic violence, in which more than 250 people have lost their lives and thousands of people have been displaced.

On 9 February, Biren Singh submitted his resignation to Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla in the capital Imphal. This step was taken a day before the budget session of the assembly, resulting in canceled the budget session. In the resignation, Biren Singh said, “It was a matter of respect for me to serve the people of Manipur. I am grateful to the Central Government for taking time in time and protecting the interests of every citizen of Manipur. ”

Prior to resignation, Biren Singh was accused of promoting the Manipur violence, in relation to which an audio tape was leaked. In this audio, Biren Singh was allegedly heard saying that he had allowed the robbery of arms in the state. 5 days before resigning, the Supreme Court demanded forensic inquiry into the leaked audio tape.
