Paul Kapoor: Trump has entrusted a big responsibility to Indian -origin Paul Kapoor. The Donald Trump administration has nominated Paul Kapoor, an expert on India-Pakistan security and nuclear issues as Assistant Foreign Minister for South and Central Asia. If this happens, camphor will become the second American diplomat of Indian origin to oversee the South Asia Bureau.
The press release said, “Paul Kapoor of California will be an assistant foreign minister for South Asian Affairs.” He will replace Donald Lu, who operated the South Asia Bureau during Biden administration.
Who is Paul Kapoor?
Paul Kapoor, a supporter of the US-India relations and critic of Pakistan, was part of the policy planning team of the US State Department on South Asia during Trump’s first term.
Paul, who has written several books on South Asian politics, is currently working as a professor at the US Navy Post Graduate School. He is also a visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution of Stanford University. Books written by Kapoor include ‘Jihad Age Grand Strategy: Islamist Militency, National Security and the Pakistani State’ and ‘Dangerous Determination: Nuclear Weapons Proliferation and Conflict in South Asia’.
Indian-American Paul also manages consultation and participation projects for the US Department of Defense. They are also part of the US-India Track 1.5 talks on defense cooperation.
The US President has appointed several Indian-Americans to major positions in his administration, including Kash Patel and Artificial Intelligence (AI) as the White House Policy Advisor on Artificial Intelligence (AI).
