New Delhi: Hearing a PIL seeking shelter homes for homeless people, the Supreme Court made strict comments on the issue of free facilities being provided by parties and governments in various states. Supreme Court Justice BR Gavai had commented that if people were given free ration and money, they will not be able to work and would be out of the mainstream of the society. We are worried about the situation of the people, but we also want them to be brought to the mainstream of society and should be given a chance to contribute to the development of the nation.

Senior advocate Prashant Bhushan appeared in the Supreme Court on behalf of the PIL petitioner. It has been demanded in the PIL that the government should be ordered to provide sufficient shelter homes for the homeless people in the cities, as the shelter is the constitutional right of those people. A bench of Supreme Court Justice BR Gawai and Justice AG Christ heard the PIL. During this, Justice Gawai said, “I am sorry for what I am saying, but your demand is that the homeless people should be given maximum facilities. Are you not creating a class of parasites by giving free facilities to people? ” Do not make parasites to people by giving free facilities.

Justice Gawai further said that whenever elections are announced, free facility schemes are announced, Ladli sister and other schemes are announced, due to which people are getting away from work. Because they get free ration and a certain amount without working. I am saying this based on my personal experience. Some states provide free ration so that people stay away from work. In response, advocate Prashant Bhushan said that there is no one in the country who does not want to work, if he has work then he will definitely do it. In response, Judge Gawai said that you will have unilateral information, I myself come from an agricultural family, free facilities were announced in Maharashtra before the elections, due to which people associated with the agriculture sector were not getting laborers, All people are getting everything for free sitting at home. The condition of some shelter homes is so bad that people prefer to stay on the streets.

However, the Supreme Court welcomed the arguments of the convenience of the shelter home for the homeless people and clarified that we are hearing this petition not only one state, but keeping the entire country in mind. The Central Government should collect all the information regarding shelter homes from all states and union territories. Attorney General R Venkatramani, appearing for the central government, said that the central government is finalizing the urban poverty alleviation mission. Later, the Supreme Court asked the Center to tell us how long will it take to finalize this mission? The central government has been given six weeks time to give its answer.

The poor are not getting clean drinking water and still you are dreaming of a bicycle track? : Supreme

The Supreme Court also expressed concern about the slum areas of the country. During the hearing of a public interest litigation demanding a separate track for bicycle riders in cities across the country, a bench of Supreme Court Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuiyan reprimanded the petitioner and said that people in slum areas have no clean water drinking water Getting and you have to make separate tracks for bicycle. Before leaving, go to the slums and see how people live. The states do not have the money to provide affordable housing to the people and you are only watching the daydream. People do not have clean drinking water. Government schools are closing and you need a separate track for bicycle. We should have some priorities.
