With the help of the player of the match Charith Asanka’s aggressive century, Sri Lanka defeated Australia by 49 runs in the first ODI to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

 

In response to Sri Lanka’s 214 runs, the entire Australian team was all out for 165 runs. Chasing the target, Australia lost four wickets including captain Smith (12) and Jack Fraser (2) until a 31 -run score. Alex Carrie contributed 41 and Aaron Hardy contributed 32 runs to the middle order. For Sri Lanka, Mahish Thikana took four wickets for 40 runs. Sri Lanka’s innings also started poorly and the hosts also lost four wickets for 31 runs. Captain Asalanka, playing captaincy innings, scored 127 runs off 126 balls with the help of 14 fours and five sixes. Sean Abbott took three wickets for 61 runs and Aaron Hardy took two wickets for 13 runs.
