The defeat of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Delhi Assembly elections and the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified the political stir. Experts are explaining this conclusion separately. In this episode, Nobel laureate and famous economist Amartya Sen also expressed his opinion. He said that the results of Delhi elections can affect the assembly elections of other states, especially Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
The possibility of defeat like Delhi is less in West Bengal
Talking to news agency PTI, Sen said that elections in India also affect other states. He clarified that the impact of elections in Delhi could also be felt on his home state West Bengal.
- There are secular parties like Trinamool Congress (TMC), CPI (M) and Congress in Bengal.
- However, these parties have gone on different paths, but there is still some consensus between them about education, health and social justice.
- They said, “I don’t think there will be a defeat like Delhi in West Bengal.”
The risk of communal politics in Bengal is less, but needs to be cautious
Amartya Sen insisted that the danger of communal politics in Bengal is not as big, but still needs to be cautious.
- He said that Bengal needs more attention to corruption -free government, honest governance, secularism, just administration and tolerant society.
- He also said that Uttar Pradesh may also have an impact of Delhi elections.
Impact on Uttar Pradesh elections, SP advised to take lessons
According to Amartya Sen, the Samajwadi Party (SP) should learn a lesson from the results of the Delhi election.
- Sen said that the SP should repeat the strategy adopted during the general elections and take a clear stand against the politics of Hindutva.
- They said, “Most people living in India do not want Hindu nations.”
- Sen hoped that opposition parties would understand the need for unity with the results of the Delhi election.
AAP and Congress fighting separately are harmful
Amartya Sen said that AAP and Congress should have contested the Delhi Assembly elections together.
- They said, “If AAP had won in Delhi, it would have a different significance.”
- He regretted the fact that there was a lack of unity among such people in Delhi, which the government with Hindutva did not want.
- He said that if the opposition parties were united, the results of the election could have been different.
