Mahashivaratri is the holy festival of the divine union of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. It is celebrated every year on the Chaturdashi of Phalgun Krishna Paksha. This year Mahashivaratri is on 26 February 2025, Friday.
According to Ishaan Samhita, on this day, Lord Shiva appeared in the form of a stunning linga like crores of suns. This is the reason that night awakening on Mahashivaratri and worship of Char Pahar have special significance. On this day, Shiva devotees keep fast, perform Rudrabhishek and chant ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ and receive the grace of Lord Shiva.
