Pakistan-India airspace relationship

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aircraft used Pakistani airspace during his visit to Paris. This permission was given due to the closure of Afghan airspace. The Indian Prime Minister’s aircraft was allowed to pass through the airspace in Pakistan due to the closure of Afghanistan. This is not the first time that Narendra Modi’s plane has used Pakistan airspace. In August 2024 last year, Modi’s aircraft also used Pakistan airspace during a visit from Poland to Delhi. At that time, the aircraft entered the Pakistani border at 11 pm and stayed there for 46 minutes.

In March 2019, Pakistan lifted all its airspace sanctions for civil flights, which had been closed for about five months. The decision was taken after the Indo-Pakistan military deadlock started after 44 Indian paramilitary police officers were killed in an attack on security convoy in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. After this, in August 2019, when Narendra Modi’s government abolished Article 370 and 35A from Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan reduced diplomatic relations with India. Additionally, bilateral trade between the two countries was also suspended. Since then, relations between the two countries have not been normal.
