The outbreak of Gulian-bar syndrome (GBS) is continuously increasing. Now this serious disease has reached the country’s financial capital Mumbai, where the first death has been recorded due to this deadly disease. Earlier, seven people have lost their lives due to GBS in Pune, Maharashtra. Patients of this rare disease have been confirmed in at least two states of the country, due to which the Health Department is on alert.

First death in Mumbai, increasing cases in Pune

According to media reports, a 53 -year -old patient admitted to Nair Hospital in Mumbai died due to GBS. The patient was in critical condition and was on ventilator support.

  • The same week, the first case of GBS came to light in Mumbai, when the 64 -year -old woman from Andheri East was hospitalized after the symptoms of the disease.
  • The woman had a complaint of paralysis after fever and diarrhea, after which her condition worsened.
  • In Pune too, a 37 -year -old driver died due to GBS, causing a total of death to seven.

How dangerous is GBS?

Gulian-bar syndrome (GBS) is a rare but severe neurological disorder, in which the immune system of the person attacks his own peripheral nervous system.
Causes:

  • Body parts start to numb
  • Muscle weakness occurs
  • There is difficulty in breathing and swallowing
  • In some cases the patient may also be completely paralyzed

According to experts, the disease is mostly seen in adults and men, although it can affect a person of any age.

8 deaths so far, health department alert

So far 8 people have lost their lives in Maharashtra due to GBS – 7 deaths have been confirmed in Pune and 1 in Mumbai. The cases reported in Pune include some suspects and some confirmed cases.

The Health Department is constantly monitoring this situation. Doctors say GBS may develop after infection, surgery or any viral illness. For prevention, protection from infection, early identification and treatment at the right time is very important.
